Aswan
Aswan Classic (Philae – Unfinished Obelisk & Dam )
Triple the fun!
This tour is about seeing 3 of the best sights in Aswan: The high dam, the unfinished obelisk and the Philae temple. Explore the city's most popular attractions from a drive through the city to the high dam to a majestic motorboat ride to the Philae temple, and a walk to explore the Island. The Philae temple retains its ability to impress as it appears from between the shimmering waters.
High Dam of Aswan
It was named an engineering miracle when it was built in the 1960s. From the top of the High Dam you can gaze across Lake Nasser – the world's largest artificial lake - to the Kalabsha temple in the south and the huge power station to the north. This construction feeds Egypt with electricity and water to thrive.
The Unfinished Obelisk
In the granite quarries of Aswan, where the granite for all the temples and colossi came; this 1 ton obelisk would have been the largest ever hewn if completed, alas, the abandoned – cracked- rock has an interesting story of its carving, and its abandoning as well. See the traces of the work of the skilled craftsmen of the ancient times.
Philae Temple
This beautiful temple continues to charm anyone who visits it in its new home in the Agilika Island after being saved by the UNESCO block by block from a watery grave caused by the construction of the dam. Explore this tribute to the goddess Isis which is surrounded by the azure beauty of the Nile, and is formed of a number of impressive sections like the vestibule, the birth room, and the house of Isis.
