Though the Giza necropolis may be famous, the historic importance and the archeological enigma of Sakkara – also spelled as Saqqara or Saccara – makes it no less important. Saqqara features a large number of antiquities with about 10 pyramids, tombs and temples that don't only belong to the pharaonic era, but also, the Roman times. However, the star of this necropolis is the first complete stone complex, the Djoser step pyramid, also known as Netjerykhet. To the South, lies Dahshur which marks the end of the vast area used as burial sites that begin at the Giza, with almost 7 pyramids excavated.
